Biomedicine is a collective name for the biological topics focusing primarily with human health and well-being. Biomedicine’s scope includes analyzing human biological samples, performing research on human and animal diseases, participating in the development of therapeutic strategies, such as vaccines, medicines and medical treatments, both in private industry as well as in governmental agencies. Biomedicine is the central and critical step for drug and therapy design and discovery.
Biomedicine study program offered in i3L focuses on research and innovation that bridge the research on human health with drug development. Currently, our program offers two specialization streams that focuses on human diseases, which are tumor biology and infectious diseases. We utilize the triple-helix (academia, business and government) approach that strategizes and implements the most relevant Biomedicine research and development to the community.
Head of Biomedicine
Biomedicine is the primary spearhead that leads the discovery of novel therapies to cure human diseases. It is important that Biomedicine students understand how human body works at molecular level. This knowledge will enable them to devise therapeutic strategies. We are nurturing our students to become well-rounded biomedical scientists who are able to contribute to the health and the wellbeing of the community.
The Biomedicine study program at i3L focuses on Infectious Diseases and Tumor Biology, which are still major health problems in Indonesia. Students are trained in extensive practical and implementative projects, both nationally and internationally, to develop their pathways towards becoming biomedical experts. We take pride in our students for their achievements and accomplishments during their study at i3L. Our alumni are qualified to study in world class PhD programs, such as Melbourne University, directly after completing their study at i3L. Our students also won a number of prestigious international awards that enable them to do internship and thesis projects, at top class Biomedicine research institutes all over the world, which are integral parts of our curriculum. We welcome new students who have passion in Biomedicine and curiosity in life sciences to join our i3L family
Biomedicine at i3L is the first and the main player in designing novel drugs and therapeutic approaches that target human diseases
i3L conceptualizes Biomedicine as the basis to study human health at molecular and cellular levels. We incorporate Biomedicine with other life-sciences disciplines to optimize research and discovery in finding treatment for human diseases.
Biomedicine students are both well trained theoretically and fully equipped with skills in advanced laboratory techniques which allow them to work in any medical fields and advance their carreer.

Amgen Scholars Program gave me a once in a lifetime experience. During the program, I had the chance to learn new research skills, social skills, networking, career knowledge, and forge new friendships. I can say it was not just an ordinary summer research program compared to my previous research internships: it gave me new skills and broader knowledge on science. It also gave me an insight on career choices I can actually pursue. I used to believe that a career in science was always related to being a doctor, pharmacists, lecturer, or R&D in a drug company. Now I know that there are actually a lot more different types of jobs which can give me exciting experiences and a chance for me to develop myself as a person. Be brave, dream big! After meeting and working with my amazing peers and professors, I started to realize that there is no such thing as an impossible achievement: I can always make it if I give my best and do everything for the good of society. What I could say to the other students like me out there: apply to ASP and experience its benefits yourself!
Both are accepted as interns at the Department of Molecular Oncology at Institute of Developmental, Aging, and Cancer (IDAC), Tohoku University (ranked 2nd best university in Japan).
Congratulations to our Biomedicine student, Madelaine Skolastika Theardy, on receiving 3 awards at The International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences (ISCOMS 2019)
I had a wonderful journey at i3L which has been my second home for the past four years. Guided by smart, dedicated and inspiring lecturers while
being surrounded by supportive and amazing friends, i3L has prepared me not only for jobs but also for my internship & thesis abroad.
Choosing i3L has always been something I’m grateful for. It’s a priviledge to be surrounded by supportive environment, dedicated lecturers, and great international exposure, not to mention the excellent facility. i3L provides a lot of things only few can offer. Not only it was a wonderful learning experience and journey, i3L was determined to ensure that the students have the best opportunity in the future. Thank you,i3L!
My 4 years of university life at i3L have been spectacular! i3L offers me opportunities to learn and conduct research. i3L also stimulates students' analytical skills and personal growth. Thank you, i3L!
Spending four years at i3L taught me to grow both personally and academically. Although my first semester at i3L was rough, the intensive
engagement with faculty members, lab assistants, and staff members has provided me with a wholesome study experience. Moreover, through the
internship programs, I was able to do my research at Soochow University, China, and Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore. I am also grateful for the support I received from the institution which allowed me to participate in competitions and conferences, both nationally and internationally. These experiences prepared me for my PhD study at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Melbourne. Words cannot express my gratitude for the continuous support from everyone at i3L.
