Biography

Lidya Kristiani, S.Si., Ph.D. completed her Bachelor of Science at the Faculty of Biotechnology UNIKA ATMA JAYA in 2014 (cum laude). During her bachelor’s study, she was awarded the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) to immobilize and characterize Proteus vulgaris K80 lipase in the Catholic University of Korea. After finishing her bachelor’s study, she was awarded a master’s degree scholarship to study Integrated Biomedicine from Soonchunhyang Institute of Medi-Bio Science.

While studying, she was offered a transfer to the Ph.D. program in the same institute where she developed her passion for functional genomics. She received her doctorate in Integrated Biomedicine with honors in 2021. Her research focused on the development of a brand-new efficient chromatin interaction mapping technique called HS-Hi-C, which allows 3D mapping of genome organization from rare in vivo cell types. She then utilized this technique to examine the effect of age-associated loss of Lamin B1 protein on the overall genome organization and gene expression in mouse lens epithelial cells. Loss of Lamin B1 proteins has been associated with aging and various diseases such as cataracts and cancers. Her main interest is integrating functional genomic studies to unveil the molecular mechanism of diseases.
