Annette’s decision to pursue food technology was driven by careful consideration and thorough research. After exploring several universities, she chose i3L University because it offered everything she was looking for in a higher education institution.
Beyond offering the food technology program she had long been interested in, i3L impressed her with its modern laboratory facilities that support practical learning and scientific exploration. Equally important was the university’s genuinely international learning environment.
For Annette, studying in English was only one part of the experience. She was attracted by i3L’s internationally aligned curriculum and the global opportunities available to students, believing these experiences would prepare her for an increasingly interconnected world.
Today, she credits that decision as one of the best investments in both her academic and personal growth.
Like many first-year university students, Annette initially found the transition to higher education challenging. Adapting to scientific writing standards, laboratory reports, practical sessions, and unfamiliar subjects required an entirely different learning approach from that in high school.
Balancing assignments, quizzes, laboratory work, and practical classes demanded greater independence and discipline. Rather than allowing the workload to overwhelm her, Annette focused on strengthening her time management skills, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining consistency throughout each semester.
She also actively sought guidance from her lecturers and explored scientific journals and credible research articles beyond classroom materials. Through persistence and continuous learning, she strengthened her analytical thinking, scientific writing, and problem-solving abilities.
Looking back, she believes these early challenges helped shape her into a resilient, disciplined, and confident learner.
One of the highlights of Annette’s undergraduate journey was participating in the CSR Internal Grant Project, “Increasing Awareness of Healthy Snacking in Indonesian Adolescents.”
As part of this non-credit internship, she played a leading role in organizing seminars and interactive workshops for children at an orphanage to promote healthy eating habits. Her responsibilities extended beyond event coordination.
Annette contributed to the research and development of a high-protein snack bar by evaluating various formulations and processing techniques to produce an appropriate product for the educational program. She also helped develop educational booklets on food safety and healthy snacking, which the team distributed during the event.
This experience allowed her to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world application while strengthening her leadership, communication, organization, and teamwork skills. More importantly, seeing the children’s enthusiasm reminded her that scientific knowledge can create meaningful social impact.
Throughout her time at i3L University, Annette has consistently demonstrated leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
She currently serves as Head of the Community Service Division for the Food Technology Student Association (FTSA) 2025/2026, where she leads initiatives that encourage students to contribute to society. She also serves as treasurer of Future Link 2026 and has supported various university events, including serving on the logistics division for Halloween 2025.
Her passion for serving others is further reflected in her role as Head of FT Project 2.0, where she leads community service initiatives aimed at creating positive social impact.
These leadership experiences have helped her develop confidence, responsibility, and collaboration skills that will benefit her throughout her professional career.
Annette’s academic excellence is complemented by her active participation in competitions and innovation programs.
Among her achievements are becoming a Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) 2026 Awardee with the project Rerasa, participating in the Food Olympic 2025 Scientific Writing Competition hosted by BINUS University, and joining Lost in Translation 2026, organized by Petra Christian University.
These experiences have enabled her to expand her academic perspective, strengthen her research capabilities, and develop creative solutions to real-world challenges.
Throughout her undergraduate journey, Dr. Hanny Angrainy, B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc., has served as Annette’s academic advisor and a great source of encouragement.
According to Annette, Dr. Hanny has consistently been supportive, approachable, and willing to listen whenever she encountered academic or personal challenges. Beyond providing academic advice, she encouraged Annette to pursue ambitious goals, embrace unfamiliar opportunities, and believe in her own potential.
What Annette values most is Dr. Hanny’s genuine care for her students’ overall well-being. Having a mentor who believed in her abilities gave Annette the confidence to continue growing and challenging herself throughout her university experience.
For Annette, the Top Scholar Award is about much more than academic recognition. She feels the award is a meaningful recognition of the dedication, perseverance, and constant effort that she has put in throughout her studies. This success motivates her to keep learning, face new challenges, and grow academically and personally.
