Sports Week 2024: Spirit of Archipelago
By Kimi Mackenzie Wibowo (BM’22)
Monday, February 17, 2025 — Amidst the heavy rainfall that swept through the city as the year drew to a close, the downpour did not dampen the spirit of sportsmanship from the 4th to the 6th of November 2024, when Sports Week 2024: The Spirit of the Archipelago took place. This annual event, organized by the Welfare Division of SCi, had been the center of attention since the start of November, serving as a well-deserved break after the completion of midterm examinations. More than just a recreational event, Sports Week has always been held once a year to allow students to channel their love for sports while fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and problem-solving skills—all while having tons of fun.
This year’s Sports Week embraced the theme “Spirit of the Archipelago,” inspired by traditional Indonesian games typically played during Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations. New additions to the event included makan kerupuk, balap karung, and a series of other Indonesian-inspired mini-games, all featured under the Nusantara Race category. Bentengan, Indonesia’s version of a cat-and-mouse game, was also played throughout the three-day event, showcasing each team’s strategy and teamwork as they attempted to conquer their opponent’s fortress (benteng). Tug-of-war, an Indonesian classic, was another crowd favorite, as teams put their strength and wits to the test in a fierce battle to pull their opponents to defeat.
In addition to these new activities, fan-favorite physical games such as basketball and table tennis returned, drawing enthusiastic players and supporters whose cheers echoed throughout the nights of competition. Beloved e-sports tournaments like Tekken and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang also made a comeback, once again attracting numerous players eager to showcase their skills in the digital arena.
To keep participants energized, food and drink booths were set up throughout the event, offering a variety of snacks, beverages, and even collectibles. Meanwhile, mini-games such as Random Play Dance and Dizzy Lipstick Makeover kept the excitement alive during breaks. As the festivities unfolded, time seemed to fly, with the Sports Week 2024 Committee ensuring another unforgettable celebration. Indeed, it was a night filled with joy, etched perfectly into the history books.
