Now that mid-examination is over, students are looking forward to doing activities to unwind and relax. Luckily, the Welfare Division has provided us with Sports Week, an annual event filled with various competitions to showcase your sport skills and competitiveness, perfect for destressing! This year, Sports Week was conducted virtually yet again, but no worries, it did not lessen any fun experience for both participants and audiences. The event consisted of Esport competitions and video-based competitions that was held throughout 18 – 22 April 2022 and ended with an Awarding Night on the 23rd April.
The Esport competitions held this year played some games such as Valorant and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Prior to the start of Sports Week, 6 Valorant teams and 3 Mobile Legends teams gathered to compete with each other on their respective games for the following week. During this time, audiences could also join the fun and suspense by watching the live streams provided on SCi’s Youtube. While the Esport competitions proceed, video-based competitions which include dance and pet tricks were also open for submission. Talented dancers and pet owners could present their impressive moves and pet tricks through a 15-60 seconds video posted to Instagram or TikTok. After the competitions were over, it was time to announce the winners of the competitions on the Awarding Night. Awarding Night started with an opening speech from the Head of Sports Week, Clarica, to welcome and thank all participants and audiences who have participated in this event. The video submissions were shown after and a live voting session was conducted to determine the winners of the video-based competition. Before announcing the winners, a video game-themed Kahoot was also played to entertain the attendees. All winners of the Esport and video-based competitions were then finally announced to claim their prizes.
Even though it was conducted online, Sports Week remained to be an event that students look forward to. So for those who did not get a chance to showcase their sports skills this year, do not forget to register for next year’s Sports Week!
