Promoting the Importance of Hygienic Tempe for Maternal and Child Health, i3L Lecturer Wins Best Presenter at KNPPM 2024

Jakarta, October 25, 2024 – Widya Indriani, S.T.P., M.Sc., a lecturer in the Food Science & Nutrition program at i3L, was awarded as one of the Best Presenters (Top 8 Presenters) for Oral Presentation at the National Conference on Community Service and Empowerment (KNPPM) 2024, held in Yogyakarta on October 23-24, 2024. Organized by the Directorate of Community Service at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the conference adopted the theme, “Enhancing Synergy and Community Collaboration for Food Security and Climate Change.”

Widya’s presentation showcased the results of her community service project (PKM), aimed at promoting hygienic tempe, food safety, and the nutritional benefits of tempe as a protein source. Her presentation emphasized educating posyandu (integrated health post) cadres, PKK members, and caregivers of young children on the importance of tempe as a snack for pregnant women and complementary food for breastfeeding infants at Posyandu Menur in East Jakarta. This community service initiative was supported by funding from the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service, under the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

KNPPM 2024 provided a platform for academics across Indonesia to present their community service findings in a national scientific forum, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 5 in higher education. With over 80 participants involved, the event included sessions focused on food security and climate change, highlighting the significance of academic and community synergy in addressing these critical challenges.

The award received by Widya reflects the high quality of i3L’s contributions to food science research applied in community service, further strengthening i3L’s role in advancing scientific knowledge and innovation that positively impact society.
