Strengthening Academic Collaboration: i3L University’s Meeting with Monash University, Australia
Jakarta, 06 May 2026 – i3L University recently held a visitation meeting with Prof. Ron Firestein from Monash University, Australia to discuss possible collaborations on research, student exchanges and academic partnerships. The meeting involved discussion with both faculty members (Dean of School of Life Sciences, Rio Hermantara, S.Si., M.Biotech, Ph.D, the Head of Biomedicine department, dr. Almitra Rindiarti Ph.D, the Head of Biotechnology department, Dina Hermawaty, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D, Biomedicine Faculty, Lidya Kristiani, S.Si Ph.D, and the international officers) as well as meeting with students. It was an opportunity for I3L to demonstrate its desire to increase international partnerships.
The discussion covered opportunities in research collaborations in areas such as infectious diseases and inflammatory diseases, for example, discussion about ways in which students could participate in internships, lab research, and thesis projects. Moreover, it also covered PhD programs (which typically have very limited scholarships) and master’s programs (which have the greatest opportunity for students to pursue a graduate degree).
Both institutions also talked about establishing a structured internship program for I3L students, including placement at research centers that are affiliated with I3L University and with a time period of 6 months up to one year. Another component of this internship was that both institutions discussed a mechanism to coordinate the sharing and matching of research positions to I3L students who meet the qualifications for such positions.
The meeting also addressed practical considerations such as funding, administrative processes, and research logistics. Opportunities for joint research activities, flexible program structures, and virtual engagements such as online seminars were identified as potential next steps.
This meeting marks a positive step toward strengthening collaboration between i3L University and Monash University, with the aim of creating more international learning and research opportunities for students.
