i3L Welcomes Prof. Yasukazu Nakamura from NIG-DDBJ to Explore Academic Collaboration

Friday, June 20, 2025 — i3L welcomed a representative from National Institute of Genetics DNA Data Bank of Japan (NIG-DDBJ), Prof. Yasukazu Nakamura. The visit was conducted to explore opportunities for future academic collaboration between the two institutions. In addition, Professor Yasukazu Nakamura attended the thesis defense of Febrina Margaretha, an i3L student whose research was conducted under his supervision.

The discussion was attended by the Dean of School of Life Sciences Dr. Rio Hermantara, S.Si., M.Biotech., Ph.D, the Head of Biomedicine Department dr. Almitra Rindiarti Ph.D,  the Head of Bioinformatics Department Muammar Sadrawi, S.T., M.S.,Ph.D, the Head of Biotechnology Department Dina Hermawaty, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D, Faculty member of Bioinformatics Department Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Arli Aditya Parikesit,S.Si., M.Si, from i3L side and Prof. Yazukazu Nakamura from NIG-DDBJ. The meeting covered various academic and student-related initiatives, such as joint research and researcher exchange. With i3L’s strong focus on science and innovation, the university is actively seeking global partnerships that can provide its students with high-quality research experiences and exposure to international academic environments. 

After the discussion, he attended Febrina Margaretha’s thesis defense, becoming one of the assessors of her defense. Then, after, a campus tour was provided to Prof Yasukazu by the International Office representatives, Vania Amelia S.T.P., M.Si and Marchia Rumkorem B.Sc., M.Sc. They  presented i3L’s facilities and learning environment, highlighting the laboratories on the tour.  

This visit marks a promising step toward establishing a deeper academic collaboration between i3L and NIG-DDBJ.  We look forward to continuing this partnership to advance scientific research, foster innovation, and provide i3L students with valuable academic and research opportunities.
