i3L International Internship Story: Vieri In Taiwan

Jakarta, 10th August 2024 – Meet Vieri Luois Cenisius, a 2021 cohort student of International Business Management with a specialization in Creative Digital Marketing at i3L campus, sharing his experience doing internship in National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan. 

As a Market Research Intern at MetaGuru under the TEEP Program, Vieri analyzed market entry strategies for the company’s software products in Indonesia and Vietnam. Additionally, he optimized MetaGuru’s LinkedIn presence. Beyond his professional responsibilities, the TEEP Program provided valuable experiences, including workshops and Mandarin language classes.

Reflecting on his journey, Vieri expressed how his education at i3L was incredibly beneficial, enabling him to effectively apply course theories and cross-cultural communication skills throughout his internship. Drawing from his experience, Vieri offers some valuable tips for other students who are considering an internship abroad.

Vieri’s tips to secure internship placement succesfully:

  • Explore internship opportunities: Utilize i3L’s International Office, connect with upper cohorts, or search official international internship program websites and LinkedIn.
  • Learn the language: Familiarize yourself with the language of your target country.
  • Consider prestigious programs: Explore programs like the TEEP Program for a structured and enriching experience.

Specific Tips for internship in Taiwan:

  • Master Taiwanese Mandarin: Even basic conversational skills can be beneficial.
  • Ensure passport validity: Your passport should be valid for at least two years.
  • Efficient visa application: Upon acceptance, promptly contact the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia to inquire about the necessary visa application documents.
  • Accommodation: Most programs provide accommodation, but discuss this beforehand.
  • Purchase a Taiwan SIM card: Consider purchasing a Taiwan SIM card specifically for foreigner for affordable local communication. You can buy them in Indonesia first before departing.
  • Avoid restricted items: Check official websites for prohibited items, such as meat and certain liquids.
  • Bring spices: If you’re living in a hostel, consider bringing spices from Indonesia to enhance your meals, as Taiwanese cuisine can be quite plain.
  • Utilize public transportation: Purchase an Easy Card or TPASS from convenience stores like Family Mart, 7 Eleven, OK Mart, or Hi Life for convenient transportation and payments.

By following these tips, you can make your internship in Taiwan a rewarding and memorable experience.
