i3L Beauty Fair 2025 Wraps Up Successfully, Showcasing the Science and Business Behind Beauty
Jakarta, May 3, 2025 – The beauty industry is more than just viral trends and attractive packaging. At its core, it demands a solid foundation in science and well-crafted business strategies. This was the key message delivered at i3L Beauty Fair 2025, an educational and inspiring event held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the campus of the Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L). With the theme “Discover the Science & Business Behind Beauty”, the event served as a dynamic platform connecting science, business, and community in driving innovation in Indonesia’s growing beauty industry.
Organized by i3L’s Branding & Communication team in collaboration with the i3L Student Council, the Beauty Fair successfully attracted over 200 attendees from various backgrounds, including high school students, university students, industry professionals, and beauty enthusiasts.
In-Depth Beauty Talks: From Community-Driven Brands to Scientific Formulation
Two standout Beauty Talk sessions captivated audiences by unveiling different sides of the beauty world. The first session, titled “The Beauty Communities Behind Your Favorite Brands”, featured Lizzie Parra (Founder & CMO of BLP Beauty) and Elisa Marchelina (Community Lead at Mad For Makeup). They shared insights on how communities play a crucial role in shaping and growing beauty brands—not just as supporters but as key stakeholders influencing brand direction.
The second session took a deep dive into cosmetic research and product development with the theme “The Science Behind Your Beauty Products”. Moderated by apt. Pietradewi Hartrianti, Ph.D., Vice Rector of Marketing, Research and Innovation at i3L, the panel included Michella Ham (CEO of Skin Game), Theresia Sinandang (Head of Research & Business Development at Skinproof), and Istiyani Rahayu (R&D Decorative Scientist at ParagonCorp). The experts emphasized the importance of scientific approaches to meet the needs of increasingly aware and ingredient-conscious consumers.
“Through the Beauty Fair, we want to highlight how the beauty world is deeply rooted in science and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Public education about how products are designed, tested, and distributed is essential in an era of smart consumers,” said Dr. Pietradewi Hartrianti.
Hands-On Workshops and Sustainable Innovation
Beyond engaging talks, the event offered a range of interactive workshops that gave participants a chance to explore the practical side of beauty science. Attendees created sunscreen sticks, face masks, and traditional herbal drinks (jamu). A special collaboration with ParagonCorp also enabled students to participate in a lip cream formulation workshop, providing hands-on learning in cosmetic product development.
Promoting the value of sustainability in beauty, the fair also held a scientific poster competition titled “Sustainable Beauty for a Better Tomorrow”. A total of 48 teams from various schools and institutions joined the challenge, presenting innovative ideas on eco-friendly beauty products and practices. Fifteen finalist teams presented live to the jury, with Team TwoWin from Universitas Tarumanagara taking first place, followed by Orange Donut from Springfield School, and Three Musketeers from Institut Teknologi Bandung.
Strong Industry and Media Support
The i3L Beauty Fair 2025 was made possible with the support of notable industry partners such as Jacquelle, Karuna Skin Indonesia, Fitbar, Skinproof, Deorex, and ParagonCorp. Media partners including Popbela and Kompasiana, along with beauty communities such as HelloBeauty, Skinsociate, and Rebel Secret Society, played an important role in expanding the event’s reach.
“The i3L Beauty Fair proves that science, business, and creativity can go hand-in-hand to shape a more responsible and sustainable future for the beauty industry,” Dr. Pietradewi concluded.
