Fueling the Future: Promoting Adolescent Nutrition & Pathways to a Career in Nutrition

Monday, March 17, 2025 – The powertalk event “Fueling the Future: Promoting Adolescent Nutrition & Pathways to a Career in Nutrition“ successfully took place in a hybrid format in i3L. Running from 10:40 AM to 1:10 PM, the session featured Dr. Sze Yen Tan, an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (AdvAPD) and Registered Nutritionist (RNutr).
Dr. Yen is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition Science, and a member of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN) at Deakin University, Australia. The visitation was joined by Mr. Sebastian Gunawan, the Deakin University Partnership Coordinator in indonesia, with the powertalk moderated by Ms. Alisha T.M Nasier, Head of i3L International Office.
Dr. Sze Yen Tan highlighted the importance of proper nutrition for adolescents and its long-term impact on health, where his informative Powertalk also gave valuable insight into the nutrition needed by adolescents during an important developmental stage in their bodies. Engaging discussions and interactive quizzes provided deeper insights into how nutrition influences both physical and cognitive development. Other than the nutrition-focused Powertalk, the session also explored career pathways in the field of nutrition, to give students a clearer picture of the career paths they could pursue after graduation.

Additionally, the Power talk also featured an information session on Deakin University life, presented by Mr. Sebastian, Deakin University’s representative in Indonesia. He provided valuable insights into academic programs, student experiences, and opportunities for those considering further education in nutrition at Deakin University, which left them eager to learn more and explore the possibilities of studying there.
At the end of the event, Ms. Widya Indriani, S.T.P., M. Sc (Med.Sci.), the representative of Food Science and Nutrition faculty from i3L, presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Sze Yen Tan in recognition of his role as a speaker at the i3L PowerTalk event. Overall, the event gave a valuable experience for attendees, enriching their knowledge of nutrition while inspiring future career aspirations.
Following the Powertalk is a meeting between i3L and Deakin to discuss possibilities on collaboration for their respective food-based departments. i3L and Deakin themselves has a long-standing partnership with each other since 2015, collaborating in establishing joint programs and activities. With this visitation, the two institutions look forward to expanding and deepening their partnership with new collaborative prospects in joint research, internship, and academic programs for student and faculty.
