Biotechnology Student Leandro Ravael Wins the Prestigious SingCham Uplifting Scholarship 2026

Jakarta, 30 July 2026Proof that dedication, adaptability, and clear vision yield remarkable outcomes, Leandro Ravael, a Biotechnology student from the Cohort 2022 at i3L University (formerly Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences), has been named an awardee of the prestigious SingCham Uplifting Scholarship 2026.

Initiated by the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SingCham) in collaboration with Kinobi, the SingCham Uplifting Scholarship is designed to bridge opportunity gaps and empower promising youth across Indonesia. Leandro’s selection stands as a testament not only to his academic rigor in Biotechnology, but also to his deep commitment to community engagement, digital talent development, and sustainable impact.

Turning Persistence into Success: Leandro’s Journey

For Leandro, receiving the scholarship represents both a major personal milestone and a validation of timing and perseverance. Having previously applied and reached the finalist stage in 2025, Leandro was unable to complete the selection process at that time due to his participation in the prestigious Amgen Scholars Program 2025 at Kyoto University in Japan. Returning to apply again in 2026, he successfully navigated a comprehensive selection process that spanned case study concept development, pitch video creation, and executive panel interviews.

“I feel extremely happy and relieved,” Leandro shared. “Getting this scholarship this time allows me to reflect that there must be the right time for every single thing. Even though I made it as a finalist last year but couldn’t continue due to being in Japan, receiving the award just before my graduation feels like time is nice and fair.”

Although unable to attend the official awarding ceremony in person at this time, where he was chosen to represent all awardees with a speech, Leandro looks forward to connecting with the organizers and fellow scholars throughout the program duration.

Aligning Passion with Purpose: Vision for Indonesia’s Youth

Leandro’s interest in the SingCham Uplifting Scholarship stems from a deep alignment with the values set forth by SingCham and Kinobi. Inspired by leadership insights, including articles by Mr. Shoeb Kagda, Leandro saw an opportunity to connect his background in life sciences with broader social goals. Despite his major in Biotechnology, Leandro has consistently demonstrated leadership and concern for societal advancement. Serving active roles in the i3L Student Council, initially within the Community Outreach Division Intern and Head, and later as Student Council President in his third year, he has dedicated significant effort to uplifting underrepresented communities.

“Throughout my participation, I have always imagined contributing toward Indonesia’s digital talent, such as by reaching out to orphanages and rural areas,” Leandro explained. “Therefore, this scholarship allows me to partner with global leaders with the same vision to create a better future for people and ensure that everyone deserves a chance.”

Looking Ahead: Cross-Border Impact and Opportunities

As part of the SingCham Uplifting Scholarship program, awardees gain access to mentorship, collaborative networks, and industry exposure. Leandro is particularly enthusiastic about the upcoming cross-border internship opportunities between Indonesian and Singaporean enterprises.

“I am super excited about working together with people who aspire to build helpful programs to support education,” said Leandro. “I am also looking forward to the internship at companies collaborating between Indonesia and Singapore! Every experience is fruitful for me to learn and create an impact.”

Words of Advice for Aspiring Applicants

Reflecting on his journey, Leandro offers valuable advice for students aspiring to secure competitive international scholarships. First, know your final destination: “Before applying, know what you want to achieve at the end and think of realistic ways to deliver solutions.” Then, align with the Vision: “It is more rewarding when you are on the same page and aligned with the target company’s vision, no matter what your background is. Assessors can clearly see if you are the right candidate through your ideas and goals.” Finally, Stay Resilient: Persistence and proper timing are key factors in achieving long-term goals.
