i3L University Explores Master Pathways and Research Collaboration with Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS)
Jakarta, 09 March 2026 – i3L University continues to expand its international academic network through a strategic meeting with representatives from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS). The discussion opened new opportunities for postgraduate study, research collaboration, and industry engagement between Indonesia and China. The meeting was attended by Bella, Haiqing, and Cynthia from Tsinghua SIGS, alongside i3L University Vice Rector of Institute Development, Sanjaya Mulya Waani, B.App.Sc., M.Sc., the Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, Rio Hermantara, S.Si., M.Biotech., Ph.D., and the Dean of the School of Business and Management, Dr. Ir. Hj. Yuary Farradia, M.Sc. The meeting was facilitated by the international office, and the discussion focused on building practical, accessible pathways for i3L students and staff to pursue advanced studies and joint initiatives.
Graduate studies at Tsinghua SIGS are the focus, and it offers both Master’s and Doctoral degrees across many academic areas. Flexibility in the academic pathways is one of the features offered by Tsinghua SIGS. Students with exceptional academic results may apply directly from Bachelor’s degree programs to Doctoral programs and will go through a structured, competitive process. English is used as the language of instruction for most degrees, making them available to international students. There is no age restriction when applying to Tsinghua SIGS for a Master’s or Doctoral program, thereby providing access to higher education degrees. Both the Chinese government and Tsinghua SIGS offer scholarships to eligible candidates, providing substantial financial support. As a first step in this process, both institutions have met to develop a Master’s pathway for graduates who want to continue their studies in Shenzhen. Tsinghua SIGS indicated that they are available to provide individual advisory meetings for any i3L Student seeking additional support for postgraduate studies at this time.
Tsinghua SIGS has an extensive range of short-term academic experiences (approximately ranging from 3 months to 6 months (1 semester) available in addition to full degree offerings. The purpose of these programs is to expose students to an international research environment without having a long-term relocation. As well as offering opportunities for students to study abroad, the potential for student/staff exchange was considered a viable means of early-stage collaboration between the two institutions.
The meeting covered many ways to collaborate on joint research and industry engagement, as well as academic mobility. During the meetings, both partners indicated their willingness to collaborate on green industry practices with Chinese businesses based in Indonesia. Among other areas, they discussed a potential 2-3-day workshop in Jakarta for Tsinghua SIGS experts to cover green environmental infrastructure available to students, university staff, and business and manufacturing professionals working in Jakarta. These discussions focused on bridging the gap between research and industry by addressing practical questions about how industries can prepare for sustainable transformation and successfully implement green practices.
Tsinghua SIGS, located in Shenzhen, offers an international academic environment with a more pleasant climate than Beijing, making it an appealing destination for international scholars. This meeting represents significant progress in establishing a broader global research environment for i3L students and staff alike. Through the development of graduate pathways, the establishment of exchange programs, and the cultivation of industry-driven collaborations, I3L remains committed to delivering meaningful international experiences that connect education, research, and real-world impact.
