i3L University Faculty Workshop 2025:

Designing Effective Lesson Plans for Higher Education

Empowering Educators Through the i3L Faculty Workshop 2025

The i3L Faculty Workshop 2025, held on July 31st, marked a significant milestone for academic development at i3L University. Organized by the Academic Affairs, specifically the Center for Learning Excellence division, the workshop gathered educators from various disciplines to deepen their understanding of modern curriculum design, effective learning assessments, and the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) across all programs.

This year’s faculty workshop emphasized a holistic view of learning, shifting from traditional teaching models toward student-centered approaches. Through this shift, i3L continues to empower its lecturers with the tools, frameworks, and philosophies needed to meet global education standards.

One of the highlights of the event was an insightful reflection from Dr. Reni Saraswati. “The Faculty Workshop is a structured, capacity-building initiative designed especially for lecturers, particularly those who are new to i3L,” she shared. “Its main goal is to equip faculty with pedagogical tools to create sound, measurable, and student-centered lesson plans, especially in crafting effective lesson plans aligned with OBE.”

Curriculum Design with Purpose: Structuring Lesson Plan for Student Success

One of the central themes of the i3L Faculty Workshop 2025 was the structured development of the lesson plan. Led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwita Suastiyanti, M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng., an expert in creating college curricula, the session guided teachers through the entire process of creating the lesson plan, from setting learning goals to choosing the right teaching methods, assessment techniques, and grading criteria.

The emphasis on the lesson plan as a comprehensive roadmap ensures that all i3L courses are designed with clarity, purpose, and measurable learning outcomes. Faculties were encouraged to align their teaching with specific, achievable, and student-centered goals, which ultimately enhances the impact of learning and ensures consistency across programs.

Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Aligning Education with Industry and Society

The adoption of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) at i3L University is not just a trend—it is a foundational shift in how teaching and learning are approached. Through OBE, educators are required to plan courses around what students are expected to achieve by the end of a program.

The i3L Faculty Workshop 2025 brought home the value of aligning learning outcomes with national standards and real-world expectations. This includes integrating project-based learning, case studies, group discussions, and collaborative learning strategies that place students at the center of their education journey.

Building a Stronger Academic Community

Beyond technical training, the workshop served as a forum for sharing best practices and fostering a collaborative spirit among faculty. The initiative reflects i3L University’s continuous dedication to professional development, academic excellence, and student success.

By hosting events like the i3L Faculty Workshop 2025, the institution ensures its faculty remains at the forefront of educational innovation, preparing students not just to graduate but to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive world.

Dr. Reni also emphasized how the workshop strengthens the alignment between course learning outcomes, instructional methods, and assessments. “My hope is that future workshops will inspire more cross-disciplinary collaboration and keep i3L moving forward in its mission to deliver quality, future-ready education.
