Wisdom and Innovation: 60 Years Journey of Cancer Research
Wednesday, April 30, 2025 — The Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L) successfully hosted a hybrid Power Talk featuring the distinguished Prof. Xu Kecheng, the Life Honorary Dean of the Institute of Translational Biomedicine at Jinan University and the Leading Expert in China’s National Clinical Key Specialty (Oncology). He was accompanied by Loretta Lam Thamrin from PT. Indonesia Cerdas Berkarya, and the powertalk was moderated by Vania Amelia, S.T.P., M.Si., from the i3L International Office. This event attracted around 80 attendees, mostly students and faculties of i3L.

The Power Talk, titled “Wisdom and Innovation: 60 Years Journey of Cancer Research and Treatment,” offered not only scientific insights but also deeply human stories. He delivered an inspiring session reflecting on his six-decade journey in cancer research and treatment. Prof. Xu also shared moving accounts of his experiences with cancer patients throughout his career, illustrating the emotional and ethical dimensions of oncology alongside scientific innovation. His reflections emphasized the importance of empathy and individualized care in advancing modern cancer therapy.
The session featured an engaging and interactive Q&A segment, where participants—both offline at i3L’s and online via Zoom—had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions. The students were really eager to ask the questions and really enjoyed the powertalk session. After the powertalk, Prof. Yenni Thamrin, the Head of Indonesia Diaspora Network, who also attended the powertalk session, gave a closing speech and shared her thoughts regarding the event.

The event concluded with Dr. Rio Hermantara, S.Si., M.Biotech., Ph.D., Dean of the Life Science School, presenting a token of appreciation to Prof. Xu Kecheng in recognition of his role as a speaker at the i3L PowerTalk event. Indonesia Diaspora Network and Jinan University also presented a token of appreciation of i3L for this collaboration event. Overall, the event gave a valuable experience for attendees, enriching their knowledge of cancer research. With these events, we can look forward to i3L and Jinan University’s future deepening partnership.
