On April 9, 2021, the Biomedicine study program held a webinar with the topic “Facing the New Variants of SARS-CoV-2: Viral Detection and Monitoring of COVID-19 with Laboratory Tests.”
In this webinar, Andi Utama, Ph.D., Director of Laboratory of KALGen Innolab, discussed the various molecular detection methods of SARS-CoV-2 virus and how these methods may be susceptible to inaccuracies due to variations in the new strains of the virus. Additionally, Dr. Thoeng Ronald, Sp.PK, Head of Laboratory at Eka Hospital BSD, delivered a presentation on the clinical laboratory tests done to monitor the conditions and disease progression in COVID-19 patients. A lively discussion ensued as participants asked an abundance of questions relating to the topics presented. The webinar was attended by 154 participants who were students, academic professionals, medical professionals and members of the general public. Based on the feedback gathered, the majority of the participants felt that the webinar managed to successfully provide them with valuable insights into the laboratory aspects of COVID-19.
