Business Series 2024

Authored by: Chery Tanadel (FT ‘21)

The Business Division managed to organize their first event of the year, Business Series 2024: Trashonomics, held on 22-23 April 2024! As the name of the event suggests, this program was created to teach i3L students how to turn trash into something economical. There were 2 sessions, a workshop held on the first day and a seminar on the second day, with a total of 46 participants attending the former and 42 participants attending the latter.

The workshop held on the first day was led by Andi Alghifari Darma, founder of Daur.id, a company providing waste pickup and recycling services. He taught students all about utilizing trash as an opportunity for business development, the factors that need to be considered, marketing strategies, and many other insightful lessons. In the end, participants were assigned to create their own business plans and present them to the audience. Meanwhile, the seminar on the second day was brought by Muslim Mujahid, a final-year economics student in Sekolah Tinggi Ekonomi Islam SEBI (STEI SEBI) and a strategic partnerships officer in Beli Jelantah, a startup that focuses on biodiesel production from used cooking oil. This allowed the knowledgeable speaker to discuss the process of oil-based waste processing and share his experience working in that business sector.

That concludes the activities of Business Series 2024: Trashonomics! With this event, we hope that students can be more aware of waste management and sustainability in Indonesia. What we conventionally know as trash should not always end up as waste, sometimes it’s worth seeing their opportunity to be converted into something bigger! See you at our next event!
