Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) is one of the leading global providers of science, technology and regulatory information and education for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical community. As a non-profit organization, PDA is committed to developing scientifically sound, practical technical information as well as resources to advance science and regulation. Since 2018, Pharmacy i3L has been in contact with PDA to build beneficial collaborations. Because of the prominent role of PDA in the pharma industry landscape worldwide, Indonesia’s pharma industry could benefit from establishing a PDA chapter locally. Hence, as an institution that actively contributes to the community, it has been one of our agenda to initiate the establishment of a PDA chapter in Indonesia.

PDA Asia Pacific has been in contact with Pharmacy i3L since early 2020 to arrange a talk by Richard Johnson, the President and CEO of PDA. Unfortunately, the talk was cancelled due to the Pandemic. Pharmacy i3L was eventually able to host a webinar in collaboration with PDA with the title: “PDA e-Townhall with Richard Johnson: Bringing PDA Expertise to Pharma Industry in Indonesia” March 17th, 2021. The interest for this event was quite high and to cater for the high number of participants, the talk was also streamed on the i3L YouTube channel. In addition to Richard Johnson, there were also other speakers who are prominent names in the pharma industry, namely John Shabushnig, the principal consultant at Insight Pharma Consulting, LLC; and Apt. Surya Septefanus S. Farm., the Site Head at Global Onkolab Farma.
The webinar first provided participants with an overview about PDA and the steps that need to be taken in order to found a new PDA chapter; this talk was delivered by Richard. John Shabushnig then delivered his talk on the current regulations on Visual Inspection of Injectable Products. To top it off, Surya Septefanus delivered his material on the path to adaptability and the new normal. A total of 285 participants who are from various pharma companies, academics, university students and other professionals attended the webinar.
The event received positive feedback from the participants where they stated that the speakers gave insightful information. The webinar successfully provided a platform to introduce PDA to pharma industry professionals in Indonesia. The event has also become the initial step for a collaboration with PDA to bring the pharma landscape in Indonesia to the next level.
