apt. Fandi Sutanto, M.Si., Ph.D. was born in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. He obtained his Pharmacist degree in 2011 from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). He performed his bachelor research under the supervision of Dr. rer.nat. Rahmana Emran Kartasasmita. Two years later, he finished his Master’s degree, majoring in Pharmacochemistry, in the same university. The focus of his research was the development of anticancer candidate, under the supervision of (late) Dr. Amir Musadad and Prof. Dr. Daryono Hadi Tjahjono.
He then worked as a scientist in the analytical department at a pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia. In December 2015, he was awarded the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education scholarship to pursue his doctoral degree. In April 2016, he resigned his job and moved to Groningen, The Netherlands. He joined the Drug Design group in the University of Groningen as a Ph.D. candidate, under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Dömling, which he finished in four years. His Ph.D. research focused on the development of novel covalent inhibitors utilizing the multicomponent reactions.
Fandi is passionate in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry. His aim is to promote analytical and critical thinking as an important mindset for the young generations.
