MARSIA GUSTIANANDA, Ph.D.
FACULTY OF BIOMEDICINE

Marsia Gustiananda received PhD degree in Medical Sciences from the Australian National University in 2003 and BSc in Chemistry from Bandung Institute of Technology in 1996 (Cum laude). During PhD she advanced her biochemical experience, learning peptide/protein science and mastering biophysical techniques to study structure and function of prion protein repeat peptides.

She further developed her biochemistry and molecular biology skills in research on yeast mutant resistance to atovaquone at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology (EIMB) in Jakarta Indonesia in 2003-2004, before joining the Protein Chemistry group, Leiden Institute of Chemistry in the Netherlands where she developed a fluorescence-based histamine and cholesterol biosensor. Returning from the Netherlands, she rejoined the EIMB again in early 2009 and did research on T-cell epitope mapping for avian influenza A virus H5N1 using immunoinformatics methods.

She was an awardee of the Australian Endeavour Award in 2010 and received a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship Award in 2012 that enabled her to join the research group at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center, where she involved in direct identification of T-cell epitopes and generated data on peptide binding to HLA-A*24:07, one of the major HLA allele found in Indonesian population.
